It wasn’t long before he had to stand on the pedals and pull hard with his arms
in order to keep moving. The top of the hill seemed so far away but he battled
on not wanting to give in, in front of the gang and Amelia. His face reddened,
his legs were so tired and he gasped for air but eventually the determined Harry
made it to the top. Once there he stopped for a rest and untied the rope. Amelia
was particularly impressed with his strength and indeed kindness towards his
little cousin.
“Well done, Harry!”, they all cried.
“You are so kind, Harry. The best cousin that I could wish to have”, said Ellie.
Jackson hoped that he would be that strong when he was seven.
After a short break, they set off again. The going was so much easier now.
After passing Jackson’s Fencing, James was as likely to scream “Massive lorry”
as he was to scream “Car”.
Soon they were at the main road. Bells took control at this point.
“When I say GO, let’s cross the road as quickly as possible”, she instructed.
Bells watched the cars and lorries going up and down the road for some time
before she thought it safe to give the command.
“OK, off we go”, she cried and everyone pedalled madly to the other side and
took up their positions again for the last part of the journey.
It wasn’t very much further before they turned off the road and onto a forest
track. They cycled a bit further before taking a quiet and narrow path. They
followed this until the came to the perfect sunny clearing. Here they propped
their bikes against the trees and took off their rucksacks. Jackson produced a
large rug for them all to sit on. After the hard ride they were all hungry so
decided to have their lunch straightaway. As they sunk their teeth into their
sandwiches, not much was said until they heard the sound of a galloping horse.
