Thankfully, the girl could walk unaided but they still had to handle the horse.
James offered to lead the horse if Jackson could push both his bicycle and his
own. Jackson stood between the bikes and thought that he could manage.
Rucksacks on and off they set. Amelia walked next to the girl, chatting to her
and making sure that she was as comfortable as she could be.
After about fifteen minutes they arrived at the car park to find a rather smart
horsebox waiting with a very worried man peering in all directions. On seeing
the gang, he walked quickly towards them.
“I’ve broken my collar bone, Dad. These children have been absolutely brilliant
and as you can see, they have patched me up”.
“Thank you all so much. You are absolute heroes. Let’s get the horse in the
box and I will take Cherie to hospital.”
The horse was pleased to be loaded. Harry opened the passenger door of the
lorry and ushered Cherie in.
“Good luck, Cherie. Hope you get better soon”, they cried.
The man got into the lorry, thanked them again and drove away.
“Well, that was exciting”, said Jackson.
“I think we did really well as a team”, said Harry. “Let’s finish our picnic and
then cycle home”.
Some days later, there was a knock on Amelia and Jackson’s door. A man and
a young girl were outside with six boxes of chocolates. “One box each”, he
said, “and a huge thank you from both of us.”
