“Today is practice day. Take your cart down to the pits and find yourself a
space. Jack will see you and tell you when you can drive out onto the track.
You can do 5 laps then you must return to the pits so someone else can have a

               go.”

“That sounds easy enough”, said Harry, feeling a little less nervous.

They walked back to the car to unload the cart. Then pushed it down to the pits.
They found a space to make their pit stop. Daddy went back to fetch fuel and
               the toolkit.

Jack appeared. “Hello, I’m Jack. Are you new to this as I don’t recognise
               you?” he inquired.

“Yes, this is our first time. I’m the driver and my brother here, James, is the
               mechanic”, replied Harry.

“I will call you onto the track in five minutes if that’s OK with you. You can do
up to 5 laps then must return to your pit stop. Any questions? I will watch you
to see if I can give any advice. There will only be one other cart on the course

               for your first run”.

Harry’s Daddy returned just in time to hear those last sentences.

“I think there will be questions when he has had a run!” he said.

They put fuel in the tank and started the engine. She sounded good. James was
pleased with his preparation. Harry put on his helmet and belted himself into
the seat. He was barely ready when Jack called him forward.

“Don’t try going too fast at first. Get a feel for the track and how your cart
handles”, said Jack with a smile on his face.

Harry steered down the pit track and onto the racetrack. He accelerated and
soon came to the first corner. He went round the corner pretty much in the
middle of the track. He remembered from his visit to Silverstone that he should

be taking a line. Next corner, a left hander, came up quickly and this time he
started nearer the outside of the bend steered to the inside and back to the
outside. That felt better, he thought. He drove a bit faster and came to a right
hand bend. He took a good line and was very pleased with himself. Just then
