Chapter 2 The hockey match
Every year Mrs Tanner in the village organises a 6-aside hockey tournament. It
was going to be in a week’s time and Grandpa thought it would be fun to
watch.
“Watch???”, screamed the gang. “We are going to play”
“there is just one problem, there are only four of us” said Annabel
“I know”, said Harry, “let’s ask Amelia and Jackson to join us”.
“Great idea” said Annabel.
So they phoned Amelia and asked her if she and Jackson would like to make up
a team for the tournament. They were very pleased to be asked and said “A big

“Blue”, said Harry
“Green” said James
“Orange” said Jackson.

team. She pointed out, being good at maths, that that was only one a day.
Granny set to work immediately.
During the next few days, they practised hard on Amelia and Jackson’s lawn.
Amelia’s chicken run acted as the goal. James was getting used to jumping and
landing with his legs together to block the ball. Amelia and Harry practised
hitting the ball into the goal past James who was improving all the time and
eventually stopping more and more shots. Every time the ball hit the chicken
