Chapter 3 The gang go camping

The summer brought some warm sunny days so the gang decided to go camping
on Grandpa’s farm. Harry suggested that they make camp high up on the
hillside next to the wood so that they had somewhere to collect firewood. They
all agreed that that would be perfect. They decided to go this coming Friday.

“Shall we invite Amelia and Jackson to join us?” asked Annabel who liked to be
called “Bells”. “Amelia is my best friend and she will be really helpful,”

               continued Bells.

“Of course”, said Harry, “and Jackson can help James and me to collect
               firewood”.

On being invited, Amelia and Jackson were so pleased and immediately set
about putting together the things they would need.

Friday came and Ellie asked Grandpa if he would take them with all their

equipment up to the campsite on his tractor. “Of course, Ellie, and I will also
take up water and bricks to surround the fire”, replied Grandpa.

After lunch they loaded up the trailer. There were two tents, sleeping bags, pots
and pans, Harry’s toolbox, and loads of food to cook on the fire as well as
lemonade. Grandpa put on a large container of fresh water and thirty bricks as

               promised.

“Climb aboard everyone and hold tight. We are off”, said Grandpa. The old
tractor gave a puff of smoke and chugged off down the road towards the farm.
They went through the farm gate and on and up the steep hill, eventually
               arriving at the chosen spot.

“Ok, let’s get the stuff off the trailer, guys”, commanded Harry. Everyone,
including Grandpa, jumped to attention and set to work unloading. Once

unloaded, Grandpa drove the tractor back down the hill leaving the gang to
               build their camp.

“First we will put up the tents. The boys’ tent over here and the girls’ tent
there”, said Harry pointing to a spot close to the fence. The boys set to,
building their tent and the girls did the same. After half an hour, the boys had
their tent up. The girls were quite confused with all the poles and strings and

getting nowhere so the boys took over and finished the job.
