“Well done, Jackson”, said Harry. “I will fetch my hammer to knock this peg
back into the ground”.
Moments later he returned with his favourite hammer which was quite heavy so
it knocked nails in really easily.
“You two pull the rope to raise the tent and I will fix the rope”, said Harry.
They pulled hard but the tent just didn’t go up in the wind. “You will have to
pull harder than that if I am to fix the rope”, said Harry. James and Jackson
pulled as hard as they could and gradually the tent rose up.
“Be quick, Harry”, said James, “I can’t pull this hard for long”. Harry banged
the peg in the ground and the tent was secure.
“Should be OK now, girls” said Harry. “We will just check the other ropes”, he
continued.
The boys went round the tent, checking each rope. When they were happy, they
went back to their tent for a well-earned rest.
They woke early and decided who was to do what. The boys would get another
fire going to cook breakfast. The girls had to go down to the farmyard to see if
Lily the cow would give them some milk. The girls set off chatting frantically
and laughing about the night’s drama.
“What’s that?”, cried Amelia.
The girls stared in the direction that Amelia pointed. There was something
large and white barely moving. They rushed forward and there to their horror
was poor old Tish, the horse, with his feet stuck in the fence. He was on his
side and could not move.
“Run back and fetch Harry, Amelia”, said Bells, “and tell him what has
happened so that he brings the right tools.” Amelia ran as fast as she could but
it was uphill so she found it very hard. The thought of poor old Tish spurred her
on.
“Harry”, she cried. “come quickly, Tish is caught up in a fence down by the
yard. He is on his side and can’t move. We must do something quickly to free
him”.
“I’ll fetch some tools, a saw and wire cutters should do it”, said Harry.
All three boys and Amelia raced back down the hill to where poor old Tish was
lying.
