                                                EN32202 Supplementary English

               Supplementary Subject                                                         Learning Area of  Foreign Languages
               Secondary 5  Semester 2                                                            Time Allocation 40 hours 1 credit

                      The learning area of this course is aimed at assisting students in demonstrating reading, writing,
               listening and speaking skills through learning recounts on various issues related to the amazing structures,
               wonders of the world, ecotourism, social networking, jobs and  signs and symbols. The learners use readiness
               and word identification skills through the vocabulary associated with the content of the various topics.  The
               course will also provide students to generate and select ideas for writing and representing for a variety of
               purposes, audience and contexts by learning writing composition techniques, restructuring sentences and
               writing information reports. The students use metalanguage for building and learning vocabularies and
               languages in use. The students use skills and strategies accordingly thereby  increasing  their knowledge and
               confidence in writing and reading skills. Students will thus have knowledge and understanding of stories and
               cultural diversity of the world community, and be able to creatively convey Thai concepts and culture to
               the global society.
                      The teaching procedures introduced in this course focus on the language learning process; lectures
               by the teacher; collaborative learning groups; student-led facilitation of topics; online learning; games; and
               activities in order to allow students to develop themselves to their highest potentiality. By using the process
               of thinking capacity, communication capacity, problem-solving capacity and capacity for applying life skills,
               the students improve themselves and become better generally. The students would develop vital skills in
               analysis, problem-solving by going through the processes of developing the knowledge acquired with the
               lesson and use these skills in daily life situations and develop their thinking skills towards the 21st
               century.

                        The course also enables students to instill the desirable characteristics, including love  of nation,
               religion and king, honesty  and integrity, self -discipline, avidity  for learning, observe  of principles of
               Sufficiency Economy Philosophy in one’s way of life, dedication  and commitment to work, cherishing Thai-
               ness, public mindedness and be healthy and well-balanced.


                Learning Outcomes

                   1.  Understand and discuss vocabulary which is necessary to convey exactness of meaning and that
                      these words are often based on existing words or word patterns.
                   2.  Recognize topic-based vocabulary, and develop strategies for working out the meaning of words by
                      studying context clues or word formation.
                   3.   Practice listening skills on various topics.
                   4.  Deliver an effective oral presentation effectively
                   5.   Employ skimming and scanning skills to locate the information required.
                   6.  Demonstrate rich vocabulary that supports the development of reading, listening, writing and
                      speaking skills.
                   7.   Understand portrayal of different cultures and traditions.
                   8.  Use multiple reading strategies to conduct research, identify main ideas, and gather important
                      information in support of their opinion.
                   9.  Think critically and apply questioning skills
                   10. Use appropriate speaking skills, strategies and language to convey and construct meaning during
                      interactions.
