afterwards, one should prohibit it for the same reason. .הז םעטמ רוסאל
The Rema cites the custom of eating eggs at the beginning of the meal and offers two reasons for it.

The custom in some places is to eat eggs during the meal as a הדועסב לוכאל תומוקמ תצקב םיגהונ

remembrance for the mourning [of the Temple]. It seems to me םושמ םעטה יל הארנו תוליבאל רכז םיציב
that the reason is that the night of Tisha B’av has been established רכז דועו חספ לילב עבקנ באב העשת לילש
[according to the calendar as being] the [same] night [of the חספ ןברק ןיבירקמ ויהש ןברוחל
week] as the night of Pesach, and furthermore as a remembrance
for the Temple, where the korban pesach was brought.
The Vilna Gaon disagreed with the reasons suggested by the Rema for this custom. In his opinion, one should
certainly not do anything as a sign of mourning on Pesach. Rather, he explains that eggs commemorate the
korban chagiga (festival offering brought on the three Festivals).

Hilchot Pesach 191 אצק ןמיס חספ ׳לה
After that we eat the egg. The reason for this is not due to הליכאה םעטו הציבה ןילכוא ךכ רחאו
mourning, for Heaven forbid that we should recall mourning of ריכזהל הלילחו סח יכ ,תוליבא ינפמ אל
Tisha B’av on this day. Rather, it is in order to commemorate the אוהש םעטה קר ,םויה באב העשת תוליבא
korban chagiga, for one cannot eat roast on Pesach night. Instead, קר ,חספב לוכאל ןיא ילצ יכ ,הגיגחל רכז
we eat [non-roasted] meat in commemoration of the korban .הגיגחל רכז הציבו חספל רכז רשב
pesach and the egg in commemoration of the korban chagiga.
The poskim note that one must be careful not to become too full during the meal, since one must still have
an appetite to eat the afikoman.

One should not eat or drink excessively so that one does not יאדמ רתוי הברה התשי אלו לכאי אלו
consume the afikoman in a state of gluttony or become drunk and וא הסג הליכא לע ןמוקיפאה לכאי אלש
fall asleep immediately. .דימ ןשיו רכתשי
3. Eggs are often viewed as a sign of mourning, and are also served at the first meal of a mourner at his home after the death and burial of a relative. The
reason for this is that eggs are round, symbolizing the cycle of life that includes birth as well as death (Shibolei HaLeket, Hilchot Aveilut). [Addition
