Task 14: Bed making

OPERATING PROCEDURES STANDARD(s)

MAKING THE BED: Complete bed linen
The following procedures should be followed in making the
bed: No bed linen stain and damages
1. Stripping the bed
- Begin by removing the pillow cases and Bed linens are fresh.
place the pillows on a nearby chair.
- Remove foot runner from the bed and
place it on the chair with the pillows.
- Remove the duvet sheet from the
duvet filler and place on the chair.
- Shake out the pillow sheet and slip to
check if valuables (e.g. money, jewelry,
etc.) have been left behind.
- Check to see if the mattress rest
squarely on the box, adjust it, if
necessary.
- Straighten and smooth out the bed pad.
Change if soiled. See to it that pad is
centered.
- Take all soiled linens on your cart.
- Return with clean linens. Place them in
the chair in order in which you will be
using them, bottom sheets on top,
duvet sheet and pillowcases at the
bottom.

2. The Bottom Sheet
- Stand at the center of one side of the
bed.
- Unfold the bottom sheet and center on
the top of the bed.
- Tuck the sheet under the mattress at
the head of the bed.
- Miter the center:
- Sheet is lifted and turned back to make a triangle.
- The triangle is folded over the side of the
mattress.
- The sheet is then tucked under the mattress
along the entire side, leaving a nest triangle at the
head.

3. Duvet sheet
- Insert duvet filler inside the duvet sheet.
- Tie a knot to prevent duvet filler loose-
fitting.
- Spread the duvet blanket evenly and
carefully, 6 inches from the top of the
bed.
- The knot should be in end of the bed.
