This project was the first expansion outside of Dupont’s historic Wilmington, DE Behavioral Health
market and offers a full range of clinical and therapy services, in addition to an Cardiology
ambulatory (outpatient) surgery center and onsite imaging. This patient-friendly Concussions in Children
medical destination for children was planned around the goal of improving the Developmental Pediatrics
experience and health of customers while managing costs. Endocrinology

The 63,000 SF building and landscaping design carefully preserves the nearby Nephrology
forests and wetlands to enhance the healing nature of the building. The facility Neurology
offers pediatric specialty care in 19 specialties, onsite medical imaging Neurosurgery
(radiology), including X-ray, sedated and unsedated magnetic resonance Ophthalmology
imaging (MRI), swallowing studies and ultrasound, 29 specialty exam rooms and Orthopedics
an ambulatory (outpatient) surgery center, with two (2) operating rooms and Otolaryngology
ten (10) prep/recovery rooms. Pediatric Surgery
Physical Therapy
The facility features a covered patient drop-off and pick-up area leading to a kid- Plastic Surgery
friendly, spacious, light-filled lobby divided into waiting ‘zones’ that address Pulmonology
specific patient populations with age-appropriate seating and activities. Added Sports Medicine
conveniences include furniture charging stations, a café, play areas, a lactation Speech Therapy
room and a secure, monitored playroom in which parents can leave patient Urology
siblings.
HBS Services
Unique design decisions were made to improve provider efficiencies and patient Equipment Planning
flow, and furthermore, patient experience. These include, in-room patient Equipment Procurement
checkout and telemedicine technologies, identical exam room layouts for Equipment Installation
versatility, team centers for provider collaboration and convenient workspace,
and direct provider-only access to different parts of the building. Project Size
63,000 SF
HBS’s scope of services included developing a budget for new purchases of
equipment and furnishings for all areas included in the project, and developing Equipment Budget
purchase specifications for owner-supplied major and minor equipment. In $19 million
addition, HBS was responsible for procurement services, including delivery and
installation/relocation management services, as well as coordinating and Construction Budget
scheduling the activities performed by other consultants and vendors. $45 million
