7. The deter.1orpt.ion of relpt.1ons with Persia has
continued following the renewal of Persian claims to Bahrain.
The Iraqi press has been unanimous In condemning such a move
which is described as "a clear oppression orninst. Arab rights,"
and on unfriendly act considering Arab preoccupation with*
Palestine. The motive for this hostile action is ascribed
to Hussion pressure and on attempt by the Persian f.overnment
to divert public opinion from internal conditions. The Traqi-
Persian controversy has been growing steadily recently, and
this latest development closely follows the Persian demand for
a boundary re-adjustment, along the Shatt-el-Arab. Thds demand
corning at the same time as the Shah's visit to London, has given
rise to some unfriendly speculation in the press, A further
cause of friction is Persian policy towards Palestine, which not
only refuses to subscribe arms and equipment to the Arab cause,
but. 1s even reported to have supplied arms to the Zionists.
