                            Sir,
                                 With reference to your telegram No. 1350 of
                       ----  August 8, I have the honour to transmit herewith a copy
                            of a letter which I have 3cnt to the Huler of Bahrain on
                            the subject of Zubarah. (Owing to delay in translation

                            the letter wao not actuully delivered until August 17«)
                            Her Majesty's Political Agent, Buhruin, had previously
                             told the Ruler, as instructed in your telegram under
                            reference, that a letter wuu about to reach him on the
                             subject from me, und that wo did not wish to press him
                             one way or the other us regards the Saudi offer of

                             mediation. It wao open to him to make up his own mind.
                             The Ruler in reply said he did not want to bo left on his
                             own in this matter and preferred to have a clear statement
                             of our position. His reaction to my letter has not yet
                             been made known. Mr. Gault will be seeing him in a few
                             days' time before going on leuve, and I will report
                             further what transpires.

                             2.   I am sending copies of this despatch to Her Majesty13
                             Political Agents at Bahrain and Doha.
