AUDITS ASSURE SAFE HIRING
CHANGE IN RN LICENSURE UPLOAD SUPPORTS CHECK AND BALANCE
In 2020 the NRR team began the hiring onboarding process, requiring recruiters to enter nursing licensure
information into the CACTUS license tracking system. This manual process was essential to assuring
every nurse had an active license prior to their start date.
In FY23, our vendor HireRight added the verification of Nursing licenses to the background check
process, which includes a criminal background check, education verification, and drug screening. The
new process allowed HireRight to efficiently upload the candidates license information directly into the
CACTUS system, removing the manual process from the recruiters.
Monthly audits after this change provided NRR the opportunity to assure the license information was
being added correctly, and helped identify a few issues that were quickly resolved with the CACTUS team.
CREATING A PIPELINE OF FUTURE HIRES
OPPORTUNITIES FOR PATIENT CARE TECH TEMPS
In FY23 Nurse Recruitment started a new initiative, in collaboration with CSR leadership, to hire Patient
Care Tech (PCT) TEMPS in nursing school, to create a pipeline of candidates for open GN/RN positions
post-graduation. The positions require a minimum of one year of nursing school experience. Moreover,
the PCT positions help fill critical bedside needs on the inpatient units.
A total of 52 TEMP Patient Care Techs were hired since May 2022. In FY23, 13 of the 52 (25%) graduated
and were eligible to hire. Three (3) of the 13 (23%) of the potential candidates terminated, but eight (8) of
the 13 were hired which equates to a 61.5% success rate.
In FY24, an additional 14 Patient Care Tech Temps are expected to graduate in June, creating another
pool of candidates for open positions during our busy hiring season.
