Everyone was buckled in at takeoff and the Flying

Fox rose up over Pelican Lake. William flew along with

them for a short while before they got too high for him.

There were fields and hills, soon foothills and then

mountains below, some still with snow on top. Then

there were clouds below, with nothing to see. The girls

played Uno on their tray table and then ate some of their

plane food. Still, it was a long flight and that makes

people sleepy.

A couple of hours later, Mirabel woke up to find

something tickling her feet. She looked down, and there

was Joe, the little pelican. Oh my goodness, this little bird

was hundreds of miles from home and family. She asked

him in a whisper how he managed to get on the plane.

Twinkle gave him a little sushi and a sip of her water.
"Well I just walked into the plane because I was curious.

This will make my parents quite furious. I fell asleep, a
sleep so deep. When I opened my eye, I could see we

were high, higher than I can fly."
