kidnapping a pelican, when Joe saved the day.

"A thousand noes. The fault is Joe's. I made a mistake

and left Pelican Lake. But I love it up high where I never

could fly, to see something new is exciting - it's true."

Well, what were they to do with this strange little

bird? Gallina thought that as long as they could find fish

for him, he would be okay, since he seemed to be such a

funny little character. But how to let his parents know

that he was okay? Just then, Barry had an idea. He would

phone the lady who owned the cabins by the lake and get

her to talk to Big Bill as soon as she could. Problem

solved. They turned to tell Joe the good news, and he

was nowhere to be found. He must have flown off! This
was getting to be quite a mess. Now the pelicans all

thought Joe was fine. But was he? Here they were in the
deep woods of Alaska, where there are eagles, bears, and

coyotes.
