THE FIRST FOYS TO TEXAS
he 1860 U.S. census for the State of Texas lists four families then living
Tin Texas with the sir name FOY. They lived in Bastrop, Freestone,
Harris, and Harrison counties. There has been sufficient research to show that
the family then living in Harrison County and the family then living in Freestone
County are direct descendants of THOMAS FOY and, thus, are our relatives.
The families then living in Bastrop and Harris counties are unknown to me at
this time but certainly may also be relatives of the Cisco Clan. Our continuing
research will determine that at a later date.
The FOY family living in Elysian Fields, Harrison County, Texas in 1860 are
direct descendants of FREDERICK FOY, SR, son of THOMAS FOY. Harrison
County is located in the North East section of Texas. It borders the state of
Louisiana. The present day city of Marshall is the County Seat. Marshall is
located on highway 80 East of Longview, Texas. Elysian Fields is located near
the Southern line of Harrison County.
The FOY family living in Freestone County, Texas in 1869 are direct
descendants of JAMES FOY, SR (in the Cisco Clan direct line), who was also the
son of THOMAS FOY.
FREDERICK FOY, SR and JAMES FOY, SR were brothers. Freestone County
is in East Central Texas and is the adjacent county East of Limestone County,
the home of BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FOY, father of JOHN ELON FOY,
founder of the Cisco Clan.
Census records contain more information than just the names and ages of the
people counted every ten years. Each census has a differing set of questions
asked of the people contacted.
In that 1860 census the head of the FOY family in Harrison County was Doctor
A.S. FOY (AMOS SIMMONS FOY), a doctor and a planter (farmer). He was 49
years of age, born in North Carolina. His personal estate amounted to
