The box is carved as a tree trunk with fowering
branches growing on the cover. The carving is
modelled as a gnarled branch bearing fowers.
The stone has various shades of warm honey and
celadon tone.

A SOAPSTONE ‘CHILONG AND
MOUNTAIN’ GROUP
18TH CENTURY
The piece is carved in the form of a jagged
mountain, with two large sinuous chilong with
bifurcated tails to one side, and a small chilong to
the reverse. The stone is of a creamy yellowish-
beige tone with some minor streaked and speckled
inclusions.
