                                                                                      The fgure is modelled with a ferce expression below a scholar’s
                                                                                      cap, he wears armour below his long robes. The interior of the piece
                                                                                      is incised Da Shunping zhi which may be translated as “made by Da
                                                                                      Shunping”.

A DEHUA MODEL OF A SCHOLAR
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

The fgure, possibly Wen Chang, is shown seated with both his hands
concealed beneath his long fowing robe that is fastened with a belt. He wears
a scholar’s cap and his face is pierced for the addition of natural strands of hair.
The glaze is of a cool, white tone.
