The exterior is decorated with a continuous scene depicting a lady dancing to
music by three musicians, with three ladies looking on.

PROVENANCE:
Property from the collection of the late Hans J. Christensen. (1922-1985).
The four-character commendation mark can be translated as “Scholarship
high as the mountain and the Great Bear”.
One poetic subject and one fgural subject blue and white brush pot bearing
the wen zhang shan dou mark, are illustrated in Shanghai Museum, Kangxi
Porcelain Wares from the Shanghai Museum Collection, Hong Kong, 1998, pl.
45 and 46, pp. 68-71.

THE PERIOD (1862-1874)
The dishes are each decorated with a central roundel enclosing scrolling lotus,
with a further band of lotus to the rim. The reverse is similarly decorated. The
group comprises four dishes from the Kangxi Period, two dishes from the
Daoguang Period, and six dishes from the Tongzhi Period.
