A GILT-LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF GUANYIN
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The Goddess of Mercy is shown seated in dhyanasana on a raised throne. Her
hands are folded in dhyanamudra and she is wearing long robes and multiple
beaded necklaces. The face displays a serene expression beneath her crown
that is inset with a small fgure of Amitabha Buddha.

A CARVED WOOD FIGURE OF GUANYIN
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The Buddhist deity is seated in lalitasana on a rocky base supported by a
dragon and is attended by two armour-clad guardians. The fgure has a full
face and is carved with downcast eyes, the upswept hair is worn in a topknot
beneath a crown. The robes drape loosely about the shoulders and are open at
the bejewelled chest. There are traces of red and black pigment.
