Bonnyton House Care Home 9
Rights of Residents
At Bonnyton House residents will be helped to maintain their rights as citizens and staff will be aware of
their personal role in safeguarding rights with residents.
We will seek to: -
1. Ensure that residents are not subjected to inhumane or degrading treatment, whether physical or mental,
or be compelled to undertake domestic or other tasks against their will.
2. Encourage freedom or conscience, thought and religion and facilitate participation in chosen activities,
religious or otherwise.
3. Encourage freedom of expression, meaning the right to complain, to hold opinion and to receive and
import information and ideas
4. Respect privacy, confidentiality of personal affairs and personal space.
5. Supply information to residents and apply appropriate types and levels of support to encourage and
enable residents to exercise their rights.
6. Safeguard individual rights without discrimination on any grounds, whether gender, age, race, colour,
language, religion or other status.
7. Ensure that where it is deemed necessary to interface or restrict an individual’s rights (for protection of
that person or for any other reason) such actions are recorded, explained to the individual and other
interested parties and reviewed regularly according to an agreed procedure.
