person has about themselves, the lower their overall self-esteem

            is likely to be.

Rosenberg and Owens in Guindon (2010: 18) have

provided a portrait of low-self-esteem people drawn from

surveys and experimental studies. Those with low self-esteem

are more sensitive than others to experiences that threaten

to damage their self-esteem. They are more troubled by

criticism and have more severe emotional reactions to failure.

Additionally, they are more likely to magnify events as negative

or perceive noncritical remarks as critical.

Those with low self-esteem are more likely than others to

experience social anxiety, exhibiting high levels of public self-

consciousness. Low-self-esteem people have low interpersonal

            confidence.

They feel “awkward, shy, conspicuous, and unable to

adequately express themselves when interacting with others”.

Some of the effects of low-self esteem which can have on an

            individual's beliefs and behaviors are:

                 1) Little confidence in their abilities.
