                Remember how you described your undesirable Activating Event? Review
                what you wrote about it.



                Identify Your Illogical Beliefs


                When you feel disturbed, what do you believe about the Activating Event
                that makes you feel emotionally upset and makes you behave self
                defeatingly?


                I believe and tell myself (Example: I must always do well on interviews.).



                You are in the process of learning how to help yourself by  nding your
                irrational Beliefs


                (Illogical Beliefs about the Adversities (A’s) of your life and later by Disputing

                them to achieve your goals.


                As you practice, you will learn more about your feelings and behavior by
                understanding the relationship between your self-talk, feelings, and actions.
                Again, the main idea to learn is that your Beliefs (self-talk and basic
                philosophy) in uence your feelings and to a large extent determine your
                behavior.


                Identify the Meaning You Give to Your Adversities



                For now, focus on the meaning that your Activating Experience has for you.
                Rational- emotive-therapy holds that when you feel disturbed you give a
                special meaning to adversities that happen or that you think may happen to
                you. You are a human being and have lots of things in common with other
                people.



                Understand that you are still a unique individual.
