Cage doors were still clanging open and closed all around him, but
Billy Bob Cat took no notice. He approached the steel mesh partition
on the other side of which lay the object of his interest. That other
cat had once been a handsome, healthy specimen of feline tomhood;
now he stretched out, stupefied and emaciated, great patches of fur
missing and horrible scars marking his bare flesh. His puffy eyes
attempted to focus on Billy Bob staring incredulously back at him.
“What happened to you? What is this place? I thought we were
brought here to be executed quickly. Isn’t that true?”
