The truck was coming to a stop. Levi attempted to restore his cool
attitude; he licked one paw and cleaned his ear.
“No sweat, man. We’ll go out quickly and quietly. I’ve heard it’s
over in a second, no pain at all. They want us dead as fast as possible,
so they can go out right away and catch more bad-luck dudes like us.
Yeah, just relax; nothing we can do about it now.”
After the noise and vibration of the past few minutes it had
become deathly quiet in the compartment. Then the trapped cats
began yowling—but that terminated the moment the side of the
vehicle swung open and two men began emptying the cages.
