WALKING IN WISDOM
dream and tell what he had actually dreamed. Daniel and his
companions prayed and the Lord gave Daniel both knowledge
of the dream and wisdom as to its interpretation.
Exodus 35:1-5 gives an example of the gift of wisdom
and understanding that comes from the sprit in the
context of work. “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘See, I
have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the
tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God,
with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and
with all kinds of skills—to make artistic designs for work in
gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in
wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts.’ ”
5) By impartation.
Someone who has received wisdom as a gift from God may also
in turn impart the gift of wisdom to another person through
laying on of hands in prayer. We see this principle operating in
Deuteronomy 34:9 which tells us: “Now Joshua the son of Nun
was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on
him.”
6) Through experience and counsel.
Understanding is gained when we learn from our own personal
experience or when we thoughtfully contemplate a matter.
Understanding can also come from the experiences of those
from whom we seek wise counsel, and we will look at this further
in the next chapter.
When I saw it, I considered it well; I looked on it and
received instruction. (Proverbs 24:32)
He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a
companion of fools suffers harm. (Proverbs 13:30)
7) By Prayer.
Wisdom and understanding are obtained primarily through
prayer. The awesome thing about the wisdom that comes
through prayer is that God gives it without finding fault. Our past
blunders and mistakes are no impediment to receiving wisdom
