really well, and we love singing and recording together. She’s
also a great sounding board for some of the new songs I’m
writing to help cope with all this stuff going on with Gord. It’s
incredible to have a friend who is also a creative partner. We’re
a perfect match. You might say we’re like sisters. Surely, God
is in this. He is looking out for me by giving me such a special
friend, especially at a time like this.
Sadly, we also have another thing in common: she and her
husband are struggling too. We spend hours on the phone.
There’s nothing I can’t tell her. It all just gushes out like oil in
Alberta.
“Oh Lenora, it’s nice to have someone else who can
understand even just a little of what I’m going through. I try to
make sense of it all, but I honestly don’t know. Maybe I’m just
imagining more than what’s there?”
“What do you mean, exactly? What’s there?” Lenora asks
gently.
“Well, every time I ask him what’s wrong, he just shrugs it
off. Says there’s nothing wrong. I just don’t get it because it sure
doesn’t feel that way to me.”
“Maybe you are reading too much into it then,” Lenora
offers.
“I don’t know. Maybe. What about you guys? Do you talk
to Bobby about how you’re feeling?”
“No.” Lenora pauses, like she’s not sure how much to tell
me. “He’s not very good with talking about anything that’s too
deep. We don’t go there. It’s kind of always been like that.”
I’m surprised. “Really? Gee, that’s not good. Do you and
Bobby ever fight?”
“No. Hardly ever.” Another pause. “Do you?”
I laugh, even though this is in no way amusing. “Funny, we
don’t ever really fight either. Except lately I have been getting
