Abstract In recent years, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) has attracted a lot of interest
since it refers to a wireless technology. To secure the safety of the residents and property, a
security framework is required for a building or a range. This RFID tag used electromagnetic
energy to transmitted data from the reader. However, noise is important on the reading rate in
RFID this is because RFID used small range wireless communication. The study is mainly
focused on the RFID reader performance. In this works, the investigation how the obstruction
affect the RFID performance has been conducted. Three materials were used as a barrier, which
are acrylic, mount board, and aluminum with dimensions width 15cm, length 11.5cm and
thickness 2mm, 3mm, 0.5mm respectively within a range 1cm until 6cm. According to the
RFID performance test read range of the reader has been affected of the media barrier which is
aluminum this is because readable range was affected by metallic object. It is conclude
Different media barrier material influenced the respond signal and respond time. While larger
the distance is also affect the read range depends on type RFID reader itself whether Lower
frequency, High frequency or Ultra high frequency.
