Abstract The number of accidents in the world is increasing every day, and more than 60% of
these accidents are caused by the dangers of driving while under the influence of "excessive"
alcohol intake. Therefore, to overcome these issues, the prototype model device is designed to
keep users from driving when inebriated and to limit the number of accidents caused by drunk
driving. The model is made with an Arduino Uno and an alcohol sensor. The alcohol detecting
sensor (MQ-3) measures the level of alcohol by evaluating the driver's breath when linked to
an Arduino UNO R3. When the driver exhales, the MQ-3 alcohol sensor implanted at the center
of the steering wheel will measure the alcohol breath level and analyse if it is within the "safe"
limit before enabling the motor-engine to start. The experiments are carried out using two
different type of things that contain alcohol substances. When an excessive amount of alcohol
is detected, an alarm or buzzer is activated, and the engine will disable until alcohol
concentration falls to a safe level. The proposed detection system is highly potential to be
implemented for reducing the drunk and drive accidents.
