                Design and Development of a


                Convertible Chair with Walking Stick

                Abstract External assistance devices are one of the options that can be use by the elderly people
                to assist them for walking in their everyday life. Other than that, not only elderly people were
                needed to use assistance devices but those who are part of rehabilitation process, which is
                recovering session from an injury or operation, or due to a long term that cause of difficulty
                with walking might need to use them as well. Therefore, a convertible chair with walking stick
                was developed in order to help them with walking, not only for elderly people but also useful
                for those who has a leg issue. The main objective of doing this project is to innovate the current
                walking stick with chair into a product that can be used by many people especially those who
                has a mass more than 80 kg. It is because most of the current product can only support those
                who weight less than 80 kg. The current product of walking stick with chair was analyze using
                Solid works simulation to identify the critical part and evaluate the product. Improvement of
                the critical part such as seated support design and at the foldable area  was compared based on
                material used analysis on a Von Mises Stress. After the product was analyze, the new design
                of the project was created by selected from a morphological  chart. From the morphological
                chart, 3 conceptual design was sketched. The best conceptual design was selected  and was
                design into a Solid works software and then will go through to the simulation process using
                Solid works simulation. The design was analyzed by using a few constant forces which are 900
                N and 1400 N. Then, the stability of the chair also was analyzed to ensure that it was stable to
                be sit with the certain allowable load. At the end of the project, when all the process mentioned
                above is done, the result for report writing is gathered.
