ITE-SME Climate Change Project-Shaping a
Sustainable Future
The ITE-SME Climate Change Project was initiated
by the NYAA and supported by HSBC Singapore to
promote the Singapore Green Plan 2030.
It enables our youths to partner with small and
medium-sized enterprises to co-create climate
change solutions. This ground-up initiative is an
excellent example of how new partnerships can
uncover innovative ideas to tackle climate change.
Over one and a half years, more than 60 student
volunteers collaborated with 15 Small and Medium
Enterprises in Singapore to find solutions to reduce
carbon emissions. The result was very encouraging
as the seeds of passion and knowledge that these
young people plant today will eventually grow into
our sustainability talent for tomorrow.
Shaping a Sustainable Future book was officially
launched by Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability
and the Environment, on 30 November 2021.

Earth School Singapore is Singapore’s first non-
profit school for environmental education. Ms
Cassandra Yip, a third-year Environmental Studies
undergraduate from the National University of
Singapore and an NYAA Gold Award holder (2018
Cohort), founded Earth School. Earth School aims
to get young children interested in environmental
issues like climate change and how they can mitigate
the crisis by doing simple things which help reduce
carbon emissions, save water and electricity etc.
In December 2021, Earth School launched a pilot
project with five primary schools funded by SG
EcoFund. Students who participated in the Earth
School’s programme can earn credit for the Service Mentors from Earth School conduct activities for the
