Eco-Solution 2: Motion-Detecting Lights
We observed continuous lighting in the toilets throughout
the day during our visit. Installing motion detectors could
mitigate unnecessary energy consumption by ensuring
lights are activated only when someone enters the facilities.
Recommendation: To Install motion detectors inside the
toilets.
• Impact: Moderate; reduces energy wastage with minimal
effort.
Eco-Solution 3: Optimizing Air Conditioning in Figure 8: Temperature set on air conditioner.
Quality Control Room
The Quality Control department maintains a room requiring
constant air conditioning at 21⁰C for the precision equipment
(Figures 7 - 9). While the company has upgraded to more
efficient air conditioners, exploring dry mode settings and
temperature monitoring to maintain temperatures at 25 ⁰C
could reduce energy consumption significantly.
Figure 9: Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
A single split unit air conditioner consumes approximately
1.5kW. When operating continuously 24hrs a day at 21⁰C,
it is estimated to use 28.8kWh (1.5kWh x 24hrs x 0.8) of
energy. This assumption is based on the understanding that
80% of the time it is operating at full load due to the low-
temperature setting. This equates to 28.8K x 365 = 10,512
kWh of energy usage.
Figure 7: Worker inside QC room. Recommendation: Use the dry mode setting for the room
and measure the temperature to ensure it is below 25⁰C. This
has the potential to reduce energy consumption by 30%.
• Impact: Highly significant; potential for substantial energy
savings.
