Psalms 34:18 says that “The LORD is nigh

unto them that are of a broken heart; and

saveth such as be of a contrite spirit,” and

James 4:6 tells us that “God resisteth the

proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”

When the seed of God’s Word is sown into

a contrite and humble heart in the power of

the Holy Spirit, it will take root and produce

spiritual life in the hearts of those who

acknowledge their need for God’s mercy

and exercise faith in the shed blood of Christ

for the forgiveness of their sins, and that

new spiritual life will be evidenced by

spiritual fruit and a noticeably changed life.

Proud and hardened hearts could explain

why multitudes of professing Christians
