thankful and already so full of joy and

peace with God because I knew that the

penalty for my sins (an eternity in Hell) had

been atoned for by the shed blood of Christ.

I had a hard time understanding why these

professing Christians did not have that same

sense of joy, satisfaction, and completeness

in their relationship with God and why they

would feel such a need to fill a seemingly

spiritual void in their lives. My thoughts at

that time were, “How could being excited

about speaking in tongues even come close

to comparing with the excitement and joy of

knowing that one’s sins have been

forgiven?” After studying Scripture, I

realized that it was very possible that

these professing Christians had never been
