have received the gift of speaking in tongues

by being “baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

One of the neighbors had even recorded

her tongues-speaking for me to listen to and

shared with me that she had been

instructed to open her mouth in order to

receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which

was a “red flag” for me even as a new

Christian. The church and the Bible study

that I was attending at that time were also

strongly opposed to the Charismatic

movement, and after studying out the

teaching behind the movement, I recognized

it to be a false teaching and therefore a

“doctrine of devils.” First Timothy 4:1 says:

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in

the latter times some shall depart from the
