they which justify yourselves before men;
but God knoweth your hearts: for that
which is highly esteemed among men is
abomination in the sight of God” (Luke
16:15).
God saves, exalts, and uses those who
are humble, not proud. James 4:6 says
that “God resisteth the proud, but giveth
grace unto the humble,” and 1 Peter 5:6
commands Christians to “Humble
yourselves therefore under the mighty hand
of God, that he may exalt you in due
time.” Satan fell into perdition because of
pride and a desire to be exalted above “the
most High” (Isaiah 14:12-14), and pride is
