of your busy schedule to meet with us on such short notice,”
Katey said.
“Have you heard about the march that we plan to have
on December 1st?” Adriana asked.
“How can I have not heard about it, sweetie. The entire
state of Florida is talking about it. I received phone calls from
every mayor in Florida and throughout the entire country ask-
ing me what I think. I told them that it would be a wonderful
idea,” Mayor Bartley said as she corrected her posture. “You
young ladies have all of America watching for the outcome
of this protest march in Tallahassee, Florida, in December.”
“We were hoping that you could somehow contact the
governor to see if he could be of any assistance,” Samaria
said hopefully.
Mayor Bartley sat back in her chair, hesitated for a min-
ute, picked up her phone, and gave the governor a call. She
placed the call on speaker. “Governor Jackson, how can I
help you?”
“Good morning Governor, this is Mayor Bartley.”
“Good morning Mayor Bartley; I was just about to give
you a call. How are you doing?”
“I’m doing fantastic.
“I’ve heard so much about the young ladies in your city
that are starting the march in Tallahassee. I would really like to
talk to them.”
Well, help yourself Governor; they’re right here listening on
speaker.”
“Really!” the governor said as he cleared his throat.
“Ummm, hold on for a second, let me take this call in my of-
fice.”
The governor placed Mayor Bartley and the young la-
dies on hold. The young ladies and Mayor Bartley all smiled at
each other.
