Page 15 - GOLIATH THE TALLEST HORSE IN THE WHOLE WORLD
P. 15
Not long after leaving the Dartford Tunnel and heading
north a lorry passed us and slowed to tell us that the left
hand rear tyre was no longer there and the wheel rim
was running on the road with no rubber.
The trailer had twin axles and would normally been quite
capable of carrying the weight of the two horses. I had
not expected any problems with the tyres as the
equipment was just the same as had collected Ebony
and Sam from Young's in London previously.
What I had not bargained for was Goliath stood at the
rear left hand corner of the trailer with all his weight on
just that one tyre, the tyre that was no longer there! As I
have explained the horse was distinctly wobbly and
needed to support or steady himself in this way, the
natural road camber led him to favour the left hand side
to lean on.
STOP
We looked for a suitable place to stop, another mile
passed and there was nowhere. It was a two lane road in
both directions with only a narrow hard shoulder. I
eventually chose to stop on the hard shoulder and see
what could be done.
Goliath and Bonnie had not moved at all so far, I had jack
and spare wheel, tools etc. prepared for the journey, I
would have to change the wheel here!
It was a Saturday again, it could even have been a Bank
Holiday.
