STOPPED ONCE MORE
Wheel was changed and we were on our way again.
We left the M25 and moved over to the M11 heading for
Cambridge and the North, only a few more miles further
on a Police Motorcycle overtook and told us the left hand
side rear tyre was on fire.
Old Goliath was still standing in the same place, this time
it was a brand new tyre that had been our spare wheel.
The Policeman directed us off the Motorway onto one of
those roads used by workmen.
I explained that we had no more spare wheels and I
would need to put the horses into the lorry somehow and
transfer a tyre from the front axle to the back axle to
enable us to get home. He said he would try to get a
patrol car to come and see if they could help.
By now it would be after 5.30pm and we sat and thought
of the best way to tackle the problem. Of course mobile
phones were not in common use and we were on our
own!
There was no other chance but to try and get Goliath and
Bonnie into the lorry, remember we are talking about two
enormous animals and elderly, wobbly ones too.
