It was a Ford Granada that fitted into a socket in the car.
The only way I could get it to help us was by my holding
the jack in place under the axle with my hands, while the
constable wound the handle. They did it and we did get
the wheels changed.
By now it was after 7.30pm, it was a good job that Shire
Horses have a calm nature!
I sent the Chief Constable for Cambridgeshire a message
of thanks when we did eventually get home.
It took us until just before midnight, what on earth the
girl's parents thought I really can not imagine, I think we
stopped further on to telephone home and explain what
had been happening.
Eventually at Northcote we were all very tired, the horses
seemed pleased to meet new friends and that certainly
helped them over their fatigue.
The first thing that Ruth noticed was this huge hole in
Goliath's hip, it was even more noticeable now as during
his final lap in the lorry he had been flexing his legs from
side to side and managed to pump what looked like
gallons of nasty ooze out of the wound and it was now
trickling down his left hand rear leg.
Ruth said that it had been a good thing come out of the
bad journey. His wound was being evacuated of its
infection inside.
