Page 12 - GOLIATH THE TALLEST HORSE IN THE WHOLE WORLD
P. 12
Our neighbour Robert, was persuaded to loan us his
small Ford D series lorry horse box. This was to cause
me untold problems on that journey simply because it
was capable of a higher average speed than the Land
Rover.
This same trailer had been used to collect Ebony (our
original Shire Horse and his friend Sam) from Young's in
1988. For that trip we had borrowed a modern V8
powered Land Rover from a friend in Boston and this was
no longer available.
Robert's horse box, although lorry sized had only limited
headroom, sufficient for small horses but not for Goliath
at 19.2 hands high. This made him six feet five inches to
his withers or shoulder. Head, neck and ears all above
this! But it had a tow bar!
Picture of THE trailer, which we had used for several
years to transport a horse and carriage together, to
wedding locations all over the East Midlands.
