Page 32 - GOLIATH THE TALLEST HORSE IN THE WHOLE WORLD
P. 32
Initially it only had one very large wide sling and with
experience this was replaced with a spreader bar on the
end of the jib supporting two specially made wide crane
slings made for us by a business in Grimsby.
TERENA AND GEOFF
The crane was soon in use and Goliath quickly became
used to jiffling about to help me get the big slings under
him and then hitching those to the crane itself. It was
around this time that Terena and her husband Geoff
came to live at Northcote.
Julian, our vet was with me one morning as I worked
away looking after the 14 heavy horses.
I badly needed some help, our first volunteer, Francis
had been unable to keep coming due to his own severe
health problems.
Julian mentioned about Terena, a young lady who
worked at the stables where Julian's wife kept her own
horse. Julian knew that Terena was really good with
horses and had two of her own, but would she come to
us as a volunteer?
She came over to see what we were doing at Northcote
and agreed to help me initially a few mornings a week.
Before long she and Geoff were persuaded to come and
live at Northcote.
Terena helped me with the daily tasks while Geoff had a
permanent job with a group of farm contractors.
In 2008 Terena took over the management of the Centre.
