CHAPTER 8
JULIAN
Goliath's vet Julian was constantly amazed by the horse.
On one visit, Goliath had developed a nasty foot abscess
which could not be treated the normal way by lifting his
foot and getting at it from the inside.
Julian had to drill a hole just below the hairline at the front
of his foot to let the badness out and release the painful
pressure inside. After explaining the situation to the
horse, Goliath just stood quite still while Julian preformed
the task with an old “Wolf” very low speed industrial
electric drill from our workshop.
The operation was a success and it was not long after
that Julian arrived with his family to visit the horses that
they had never seen.
THE VISIT
I had explained to Goliath that Julian was coming to see
him “today” and to be sure to make him welcome....there
was to be no treatment!
It was in the mid 1990's when we still had quite large
numbers of visitors in the Summer Holidays, perhaps
there were upwards of 100 people in the large open barn
where the visitors wait for the horses to come in to them.
Just as soon as Goliath entered, he looked over
everyone's heads and spotted Julian, straight away he
moved over to where Julian was stood amongst a large
group and placed his huge head on Julian's shoulder.
