• Drivers must not exceed the Working Time Directive hours of work. Average 48
hours per week over a reference period of 26 weeks. See Section 29 Drivers Hours
for more information.
• Drivers to adhere to EU drivers’ hour’s regulations and tachograph laws.
• Drivers are responsible for any speeding offences they incur in either the UK or any
other country they are operating in. In the UK, FTL will pass the details of the
relevant driver onto the authorities as requested. Abroad fixed fine penalties will be
shown to the driver concerned and the amount of the fine will be deducted from
their expenses/salary. This is not optional as FTL as the operator of the truck are
obliged to pay the fine.
• The railway triangle has a 20 MPH speed limit as you come over the railway lines,
approaching the estate security office. This must be adhered to at all time by all
vehicles.
• Drivers must adhere to any ‘Maximum Gross Weight Restrictions’ (Certain towns,
villages, bridges and roads have weight restrictions for Lorries). If in doubt contact
the office for advice.
• Drivers must adhere to the law regarding mobile phones usage whilst driving.
Handsfree equipment (Bluetooth) is provided in all vehicles. Calls should only been
taken/made via the Bluetooth set and when it is safe and legal to do so. Handheld
functions of mobile phones (not via Bluetooth) must not be used whilst driving – this
is a criminal offence. Drivers are responsible for the mobile phone that is issued and
allocated to their truck, please do not abuse or use for personal use excessively.
Most phones now are smart phones and can be used to help in any situations, i.e.
involvement in an accident or taking pictures of locations or goods.
• Drivers must be mindful when following satellite navigation systems. Be sure to take
note of weight and height restriction signs and do not continue if you are unsure.
DO NOT blindly follow sat nav as it can be misleading. Any fines incurred will be at
the expense of the driver if deemed to be from not taking due care in this area.
