the following session. By now Bruce was able to turn
left and right smoothly. He could sit and wait while
Jasmyne stepped away and towards him and he was
starting to remain still whilst Jas walked a semi circle
around him. The next step was long line training and
Jasmyne & Bruce
Bruce having a quick recall.
Again Jasmyne and Bruce practiced whenever they
could and Bruce very quickly picked it up. Jasmyne still
continued to work on the semi circle but Bruce would
always stand and take a step when she got to the
same point. Bob suggested that Jas walked in straight
lines, forwards, backwards, left and right around
Bruce, while he was in the sit and stay position. Again
Jasmyne went off and practiced with Bruce.
Jasmyne returned to Delta One Canines determined to
show Bob and Gill what she had been working on. The
pair were great! Bruce listened first time and Jasmyne
was bursting in confidence so Bob decided they were
ready for the next, the complete circle. Jas walked
Bruce, following Bob’s instructions to turn sit, stay, etc
and Bruce followed every command. Then Bob asked
Jasmyne to drop the lead while Bryce was sitting.
Bruce sat still watching Jasmyne very closely as she
stepped away and calmly walked a full circle around
Bruce. The feeling of accomplishment Jasmyne felt as
she praised Bruce was overwhelming to witness. She
was beaming and Bruce was obviously jubilant that his
mum was praising him for a job well done.
Bob told Jasmyne on her first week that by the eighth
session, she would be walking circles around Bruce.
Jasmyne hadn’t believed him. This was her seventh
session. Bob said the pair were ready to start training
for the Good Citizens Bronze Award. ‘Jasmyne listens
well and has worked hard with Bruce. They’re now
ready to move on.’ Jasmyne was so excited. Jasmyne
was set homework for herself this time, carefully read
and understand the leaflet about what a good owner
should do.
Jasmyne left the session buzzing and could not wait
to go back the next week to start her Bronze Award
training.
Training day came and Jasmyne excitedly got Bruce
ready to go. Jasmyne was surprised to learn that most
of what she had covered in the basic training, was on
the Good Citizens assessment. With this in mind, the
pair quickly progressed started picking up the new
