expectations very quickly. Bob said that most dogs
struggle with gates. We are very lucky to live on the
edge of the Countryside, a five minute walk brings
us to a kissing gate and into fields. Bruce has been
walking this route since he was a puppy, so gates
do not phase him at all. He very quickly took to
sitting before going through the gate and Jas was
able to do lots of practice with him.
The part of the assessment which took the
most practice was the sit and stay for 1 minute.
Bruce can be wary of his surroundings and is
easily distracted, meaning he struggles to sit
still. Jasmyne patiently followed Bob’s guidance,
returning Bruce to the sitting position whenever
he moved, working up from 20 seconds, to 45 and
eventually over a minute.
Finally the assessment day arrived. Jasmyne a
little nervous, stepped onto the field with Bob.
He explained that they would have a practice
run through before the full assessment. This put
Jasmyne immediately at ease, however unbeknown
to Jasmyne, her assessment had begun and her
assessor Anne Henwood was observing her the
whole time. Having watched how far the pair have
come, I would recommend basic training
Bob asked Has to walk, turn, about turn, sit etc to all pet owners, especially those who
and Jas very confidently lead Bruce around the have nervous dogs. I can not praise
field. He managed the sit and stay comfortably and
Bob and Gill from Delta One Canines
they made the gate exercise look easy. Jasmyne
enough. They were were very calm and
was able to answer all the health and well being
questions and was able to show she knew how to patient. Their knowledge was infinite and
examine Bruce for health problems. they have countless success stories like
Jasmyne’s.
Jasmyne proudly accepted her award. It was
certainly well earnt. Bruce still barks when he’s out and
about, especially when he meets an
unfamiliar dog, but Jasmyne handles
him well and is great at distracting him.
While she continues to build Bruce’s
confidence and maintains the skills she
learnt from Bob, Jasmyne is deciding
what she would like to do next with him.
She’s looking at the different Kennel
Club activities, however if you have a
suggestion of what the pair could do
next, we’d like to hear from you.
Watch this space for their next adventure.
