expectations very quickly. Bob said that most dogs
struggle with gates. We are very lucky to live on the
edge of the Countryside, a five minute walk brings
us to a kissing gate and into fields. Bruce has been
walking this route since he was a puppy, so gates
do not phase him at all. He very quickly took to
sitting before going through the gate and Jas was
able to do lots of practice with him.

The part of the assessment which took the
most practice was the sit and stay for 1 minute.
Bruce can be wary of his surroundings and is
easily distracted, meaning he struggles to sit
still. Jasmyne patiently followed Bob’s guidance,
returning Bruce to the sitting position whenever
he moved, working up from 20 seconds, to 45 and
           eventually over a minute.

Finally the assessment day arrived. Jasmyne a
little nervous, stepped onto the field with Bob.
He explained that they would have a practice
run through before the full assessment. This put
Jasmyne immediately at ease, however unbeknown
to Jasmyne, her assessment had begun and her
assessor Anne Henwood was observing her the
whole time. Having watched how far the pair have

Jasmyne proudly accepted her award. It was
