Description of the Activity: The sorority sisters visited our adopted school, West Salisbury
Elementary, for the annual Read Across- NSPDK, Inc. The Sorors participated in the school’s
activities to celebrate Read Across America. A presentation was made from the chapter to the
administration to support literacy for all students.
AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY: Number of Sorors: 55
Description of the Activity: The interest in the movie Harriet Tubman provide opportunity for
the chapter to travel to Baltimore to the Reginald F. Lewis Museum for the facts behind the
fictionalized movie version. The program at the museum showcased the historical researcher
who worked with the movie to provide as much accuracy as possible. It was a fascinating
lecture, followed by strategies and tools to incorporate the facts of life during that time into the
curriculum taught in schools. The trip strengthened ties with other area educators who traveled
with us for an exciting and productive day across the Bay.
