                      LITERACY

                         READING: (in the content areas, tutoring, mathematics, language, science, social

                  Description of the Activity: Our Sorors are actively involved in our local churches,
                  communities, and local schools through educational workshops in reading, science, and math.
                  Gamma Mu promoted reading during the Teach-A-Rama as students had to read instructions for
                  their activities of the day.
                         AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY:   Number of Sorors: 10         Others: 60
                  Description of the Activity: Gamma Mu celebrated African American History month by
                  sponsoring an African American Achievement Program entitled "The Black Experience:
                  Connecting our Past With Our Present." The program included songs, music, poetry reading and a
                  celebration of three individuals within the local communities. These individuals included: Curtis
                  Wilson, a Fire Lieutenant; Antoinette Ramseur, Television News Reporter and Dr. Vera
                  Mclauchlin, a minister and retired school teacher.
