Local Drive C: on your personal computer. Scroll in the Navigation Pane of File Explorer until you
see Your Name folder. Click on it. You will probably see several folders and subfolders that are
automatically placed there. (Depending on how the computer has been set up.) If you have been using
these folders before, there will be other files and folders as well.

 USB/Flash Drive: Insert your USB/Flash/Thumb Drive into a USB port on the computer. Scroll in the
Navigation Pane and click on This PC. Click on the drive letter of your USB port (it will vary by the
computer). If you have been using this folder before, there will be other files and folders as well. Many
people store their files on a USB drive that easily fits in your pocket and can be carried with you from
computer to computer. It is inexpensive, yet it has a capacity to equal or surpass other forms of storage.

 CD and DVD: Much data is stored on Disk, especially if it only has to be accessed rather than changed
and saved, such as music and pictures. Insert your disk in the appropriate drive. Scroll in the Navigation
Pane and click on This PC. Click on the drive letter of your CD or DVD (it will vary by the computer).

 College or Business Computer: Most colleges and businesses have a separate Drive and folder for each
person to use. You may have to locate the Drive first (such as Drive H), then your name or vice versa.
You will probably see several files and subfolders, such as Libraries, Pictures, Music, Videos,
Documents that are automatically placed there. If you have been using this folder before, there will be
other files and folders as well. This is handy when you work primarily within one organization.

 Cloud Drives: A newer method of storage is Cloud Storage, where your files and folders are stored on
servers located other places “in the Cloud”. These locations can be accessed from any computer in any
part of the world – all you need is your login name and password. These are widely used for sharing data
and files. One Drive (formerly SkyDrive), Google Cloud, iCloud are some examples.

Choose the storage method

IF you will be doing all your class work on your own personal computer, you may save your
documents in the Documents/Your Name folder or wherever you choose.
IF you will be using several different computers, use a USB/Flash Drive on which to save your
file. Then you can carry it with you from computer to computer.
