USE OF ABRASIVE WHEELS
● Only trained competent persons to
operate, mount and dress abrasive wheels;
● Use the correct type of abrasive wheel for
the material to be cut/grinded;
● A Hot Work Permit is required when using
abrasive wheels;
● Do not use cutting wheels for grinding and
vice-versa;
● Store the abrasive wheels in accordance
with the manufacturers instruction;
● Abrasive wheels should be stored in a dry
environment avoiding extremes of
temperature;
● The competent person should inspect the
wheel BEFORE mounting the wheel to
ensure it is free of defects;
● Ring test the wheel to check that it has no
defects. DO NOT USE DEFECTIVE WHEELS.
● Check for cracking, signs of solvent spillage,
cracking of surfaces, signs of disintegrations
etc;
● Identify danger areas and, where
applicable, provide and the use exclusion
zones. Most work will take place in the
designated cutting areas;
● The RPM of the abrasive wheel must be
greater than the machine it is used on;
● The competent person shall keep wheels
for grinding true and dressed;
